JnNURM – Building a New Techno - Legal Regime for Safer India

According to 2001 census, India has a population of 1,027 million (27.8% in urban and 72.2% in rural area with 249.1 million housing units, 177.5 million in rural and 71.6 million in urban area. To protect such a large population with low levels of education from then fury of natural hazards is an ever-ending easy task for all. However, local initiatives and the government’s efforts over the years have tried to reduce risks and built community capacity to deal with such emergencies. By convention relief and disaster management are state subjects, the union governments acting as facilitator.

Urban Resource Link

The Urban Resource Link is an information support service on key reform areas for cities under the JNNURM programme. It aims to address the information needs of urban managers and associated sector professionals. It is an initiative managed by the Administrative Staff College of India and supported by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India and the World Bank Institute.

The Administrative Staff College of India in partnership with the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), Government of India and the World Bank Institute has launched a national urban information support initiative – the Urban Resource Link (URL). The purpose of the initiative is to provide information support to urban managers and associated sector professionals in the context of the reforms agenda under programmes such as the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
