| The Urban Management Module for IAS probationers is aimed at sensitizing young trainees to innovative approaches that have the potential to improve the quality of urban management, such as strategic planning, participatory decision-making, municipal financing, and public-private-community-partnerships in services delivery etc. These trainers in the early part of their career will assume the role of city managers and play a significant role in initiating urban sector reforms |

- To provide a broader, more holistic perspective on the range of issues confronting Indian cities and to explore new approaches to address these issues;
|

- To sensitize the trainee officers on important issues of urban management including concerns relating to urban traffic.
- To familiarize the young officers with the social, legal and institutional dimensions of the urban system and its impact on law and order, traffic management and other aspects with which the officers will be concerned in the coming years.

The programme adopts an interactive approach, with a blend of lectures, case studies, video films and simulation exercises. In addition, panel discussions involving leading experts and practitioners are organised to promote candid dialogue on contemporary issues of specific relevance to programme participants. |

National and international urban experts and practicing managers would share concepts and experiences during the programme. |

The programme is primarily aimed at young trainees of Indian Administrative Services Academy, Mussoorie. |

The two day programme would be scheduled during March 2007 in consultation with the Mussoorie Academy. The workshop will be held at the IAS Training Academy, Mussoorie. |
